Odell Lake Christmas Card
This cabin sits on the shore of Odell Lake, Oregon, a natural lake that was carved by a glacier hundreds of years ago. Odell Lake was name after an Oregon Surveyor, General William Holman Odell by B.J. Pengra, who led a team of surveyors to map out what became the Oregon Central Military Road and then eventually, Highway 58. The lake is now primarily a recreational area for boating, fishing, hiking , winter sports, and so on. But, Odell Lake has roots in timber and forestry. The lake once had a lumber mill and a lumber camp. In the 1920's the railroad came through and the thriving community of Crescent Lake Junction was built. This line was first called the Natron Cutoff, but later became the main connector between Northern California (Mt. Shasta) and the Pacific Northwest. Crescent Lake became a center to service steam trains and to gain a fresh crew. The Odell Lake area is still a vital resource for timber and the railroad system. However, it is also a peaceful setting where the blessed few can enjoy the Holidays the same as they celebrated for hundreds of years.
