Fall Turns to Winter, Christmas Card
Thirty miles above Sweet Home, Oregon, when fall turns to winter, drastic changes occur daily. One day can be sunny and 70 degrees; the next day can be sunny and 25 degrees. The scenery changes just as fast. One day the leaves are green and almost the next day they can be many different shades of yellow and orange. Along with this comes the snow in the higher elevations as reflected in this oil painting.
Trucking changes rapidly, too, for truck drivers in this area. Dust is flying when they get close to Sweet Home, but keep the snow chains handy; they are often needed in the mountains at higher elevations, just around the bend, or just over the next hill. This is the time of the year that the skills of truck drivers are measured every hour of the day. Forget where you are for one minute and you can be in deep trouble.
This is the season that many loggers most relate to - everyone enjoys trips to and from the woods when the scenery is as colorful as any place in the world.
