This was one of the Diesel-electric locomotives used by the Potlatch Corporation, Lewiston, Idaho in their logging operations in the late 1940s. The Diesel shown in this oil painting is a Whitcomb Engine, one of nine units buildt by the Whitcomb Locomotive Company in Rochelle, Illinois. Potlatch Corporation purchased three of them in 1948. The other six were shipped to south America. This 70 ton Witcomb claimed many novel accessories for its day, including a General Electric two-way radio phone.

When the railroad era ended for Potlatch in Idaho in the early 1960s two of the units were shipped to their southern division in Arkansas and the third was sold to the Dravo Corporation in California where it was used to lay track for "BART," the San Francisco Bay area rapid transit system.
