TEST Tunnel Near Westport, Blank Cards
Probably unique in West Coast logging in the early 1890s was the tunnel of the Westport Lumber Company near Westport, Oregon. Loggers bored through a hill rather than lay down an extra half mile or so of skidroad. A bullteam, shown here after emerging from the tunnel, is taking a "breather" before its downhill pull to the landing on the Columbia River.
For many years the tunnel could be seen from the highway between Portland and Astoria, near Westport.
