Selective Harvesting CC, Pre-printed Sentiment
This scene shows a professional forester explaining to a forest land owner why he has marked a tree for cutting. This owner has chosen the selective harvesting method to remove some of the trees from his professionally managed forest.
Many timberland owners commission or employ professional foresters, who spend their lives dealing with silvicultural and other forest-related management activities. They deal with a large variety of forestry concerns and situations because trees mostly grow on rough ground and are exposed to many adverse elements. Trees may grow on steep terrain with lots of rocky bluffs or may grow on relatively flat ground as in this scene. No matter where they grow, trees in a healthy forest have need for an optimum growing space and they have to be able to support other lives which are also associated with the forest community. Trees may get sick while not showing signs recognizable by an ordinary person. In time, trees eventually develop a useful timber supply suitable for a large variety of forest products. So, a professional forester must know how to care for the forest, how to manage it and eventually how to harvest and renew it. A timberland owner is not only interested in managing a forest, but wants to utilize it and renew it. This keeps our forests in America productive and provides an everlasting renewable resource.
