The site of Harris Covered Bridge, spanning Mary's River in Benton County is found two and a half miles west of Wren, Oregon, off Highway #20, west of Corvallis. Completed in 1936 the bridge was a replacement of a covered bridge built by H.W. Fielder.

Harris has been a community since 1890 bearing the name of a pioneer land owner. This is primarily a forest related area with small ranches nestled in the valleys of the Coast Range Mountains. Since about 1905 this artist's relatives have been scattered throughout this part of Oregon working in the forests, sawmills, businesses, ranches and at Oregon State University.

To the artist, photographer and historian covered bridges are a link to the past. They were built, for the most part, of Douglas fir for its great strength and Western Red Cedar for durability.
