The Covered Bridge CC, Pre-printed Sentiment
This is one of the shortest covered bridges in the state of Oregon; 42-ft. The covered portion is about 24-ft. long. It was constructed, for the most part, of Douglas Fir for strength, and Western Red Cedar for durability.
The official name of this structure is "North Fork of the Yachats Bridge." This was the last covered bridge built (1938) by contractor Otis Hamer. It spans the North Fork of the Yachats (pronounced "Ya-hots") River, 7 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The name of the nearby community of Yachats was named in honor of the local Indian tribe - the name meaning, "At the foot of the mountain." From 1885–94 some of these bridges were built for $470–$800.
