Logging Old Growth Timber Christmas Card
In the early 1950s, two "hard hat" loggers are shown setting chokers on a downed and bucked old growth Douglas Fir tree. Federal laws and company policies make it mandatory to wear hard hats for the logger's protection.
I recall when President Dwight D. Eisenhower announced to our loggers that their industry was among the most dangerous in the country (something that they already knew), and steps must be taken to improve the industry. Logging is still very dangerous, but it is improving immensely.
Books have been written suggesting ways to improve the safety of our industry. When a tree is felled and the tree and loose limbs start falling, you had better not be in its way; nothing will protect you - including hard hats!
