The Water Hole Christmas Card

All well-managed timberlands have access roads to all areas in case of fire. This scene shows a man-made water hole and men returning from fighting a spot fire in about 1940–1950. These water holes were put in practical locations where fire trucks came to fill their tanks. Fire trucks with full tanks were stationed at every logging site during the fire season.

Firefighting techniques have changed over the years, with improved equipment, means for earlier fire detection, use of aircraft, fire retardant chemicals, etc. However, water holes are still used and fire trucks (engines) or water tanks are still required at each operation. The hard work of people is still required to fight and prevent forest fires.
