Manary Logging Co. Camp 12 Christmas Card
This scene shows two Willamette Steam Donkeys at work near Camp 12. A 13" x 14" high-speed skyline yarder is on the left and a 10" x 11" loader is on the right. Water for these donkeys at this logging site was brought in by tank car and pumped into the large reservoirs by a steam-operated pump with energy supplied by a locomotive. All railroad and logging operations of the C.D. Johnson Lumber Company, Toledo, Oregon, were handled by Manary Logging Company in the 1920s and early 30s. Their network of railroads covered much of the mid-Coast Range mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The Manary Brothers owned and operated Baldwin, Lima Shay, and Porter steam locomotives.
