02-14CC Logging in the 50s Christmas CardThis scene shows a Booth-Kelly log truck on its way to the log pond at Mosby Creek where the logs will be loaded onto railroad cars for transportation to the Booth-Kelly mill in Springfield, Oregon.Forest Practice Rules have been put into effect since that time which have altered logging methods considerably, especially as they pertain to logging along streams. At one time the Booth-Kelly Company had a very large ownership of old-growth timber. Because of the large trees in their possession, they had the capability of many cuttings such as 12 x12 FOHC (Free of Heart Center), as well as many other special cuttings that were in demand in the marketplace at that time. Since the '50s Booth-Kelly's holdings have been sold to several timber owners and those holdings have become important parts of the new owners' operations. Northwest Oregon Forest Practice Rules have been established to ensure a good supply of timber and clean streams for the future. |
