Prospector's Cabin Art Print

A black bear is cautiously examining a broken down cabin to make sure nothing challenging would be inhabiting it.

In the early to mid 1900s it was a common sight to see old, run-down cabins such as the one shown in this oil painting. Prospectors, trappers, early loggers, homesteaders, etc., usually were the builders.

The mountain shown in the background is Mt. Shuksan, 9,127' elevation; located in Northern Washington state, a few miles east of Mt. Baker.

In the 1960s this was the only cabin of this type that I knew about - it happened to be in Oregon, on timberlands a few miles north of Vida. So I took snapshopts of it and used the cabin in this painting. A few years later, the cabin disappeared completely to decay.
