No. 107 Stops for Water Art Print
In this scene East Side Logging Company's No. 107 is shown stopping to fill its 1,800-gallon tank with water on its way to Keasey in the Northwestern corner of Oregon.
On September 12, 1926 Willamette Iron & Steel Works of Portland, Oregon delivered this gear-driven locomotive to the East Side Logging Company of Keasy. Seven years later in 1933 the company sold her to nearby Sunset Logging Company located at Timber, Oregon. Its number was changed from 107 to 25.
During Sunset's time of ownership a mishap occurred. An inexperienced engineer forgot to pump up the air brakes at the top of a grade. Before the locomotive attained much speed downhill and out of control; the crew had fortunately bailed out. The runaway came to rest after hitting a watchman's shack, completely demolishing it. The watchman, who occupied the shack, miraculously escaped injury. Even though the locomotive received extensive damage it was loaded onto a flatcar, shipped to Willamette Iron & Steel Works, repaired and put back to work. Her life of service to the logging industry came to an end in 1950 when she was scrapped.
