05-16NC Warner Mountain Lookout Note CardLocation: 75 miles southeast of Eugene, Oregon; 35 miles southeast of Oakridge; 140 miles southeast of Salem; 190 miles southeast of Portland in the Willamette National Forest of Oregon's Cascade Mountain Range.The tower is at 5,800' elevation. The lookout is perched on a 40' tower with a 6'x 6' observation cupola and a 14' x 14' living quarters (no running water nor bathroom facilities). Water needs to be packed up the long stairway. Occasionally during strong winds the tower will sway slightly, but it is constructed to take that. It is safer to stay inside during lightning storms as the tower is well-grounded. Warner Mountain Lookout continues to serve as a summer home and duty station for the seasonal fire lookouts who play a key role in the detection of fires in the Rigdon Ranger District and adjoining forests. |
