Logging Near Astoria Note Card
In the mid-section of the fertile crescent stretching from the Gulf of Alaska to the coast of Northern California is an area of coastal Oregon near Astoria shown in this scene; a region justifiably known as one of the outstanding tree-growing areas on the face of this planet.
Blessed with a mild climate, plenty of rainfall, and rich soil, this realm sustains a heavy forest growth from the Pacific Ocean, over forested hills, fertile valleys to the snow-capped mountain ranges of the interior.
Following a continuous cycle since the end of the Ice Age, many generations of trees have sprouted, grown to maturity and died. It is this miracle of the cycle of life that this scene represents. In this cycle of life, food and shelter are provided for fish, wildlife, domesticated animals, and mankind alike; and with good management, can live in harmony with one another.
