Camp's Christmas Tree Note Card
With the last load of logs from the woods at the end of the day, a week or so before Christmas, the engineer might be talked into stopping for the camp's Christmas tree; plus a tree or two for others living at the camp. Selection of the "right" tree was not much different than today - some having a special interest in the size and shape of the tree.
This scene shows such a situation in an old logged area. The stump in the foreground was a guy line anchor stump for a High Lead system. Guy lines for High Lead spar trees usually required 1-inch minimum to 1-1/2-inch maximum diameter guy lines.
Natural reseeding took place as soon as a logging site was finished. Douglas Fir is one of the world's most important timber species. It is one of the tallest trees and a very popular Christmas tree.
