The Band Saw Head Rig Art Print

This scene took place in the mid-1900s at a sawmill in Springfield, Oregon.

The log shown in this oil painting was from carefully selected trees brought in from the mill's timberlands to fill a special order of 28 pcs: 14" x 16" x 64' Select Structural, 50% Construction Grade, Douglas fir, green rough. At the time they cut this order the company owned 145,000 acres of timberland of which 55,000 acres were covered with old growth timber.

This mill began operation in 1896. No longer in existence, they are another page in the fascinating history of the Oregon country.
