Fore & Aft Road Near Mt.Baker, Art Print
A turn of logs is being completed in a "Fore & Aft Road." This scene took place before sunrise in the early 1900s in northern Washington. The man standing on the 3-pole log chute was called "Pig Chaser." He followed the turn of logs down the mountain to a railroad siding where the logs were loaded onto flat cars for transportation to the mill. After the logs were loaded onto flat cars the rigging was put in the "Pig" (a hollowed out, canoe-shaped log) and returned by the haulback to the spar tree for the next turn of logs.
