Tools of the Trade Limited Edition Art Print

This scene is a print of an original oil painting showing a bucker at work on a Douglas Fir in Western Oregon in the 1930s.

His tools were a double-bitted axe, a sledge, wedges, an undercutter and a crosscut saw. Items important to his work were a bottle of kerosene (to free up the saw of pitch), his "tin" coat, pack sack, lunch pail and a red felt hat.

Besides being hazardous work, bucking took a lot of stamina and knowledge of how to buck the logs without splitting and breaking the wood. This is why it was one of the highest paying jobs in the woods.
