Several years ago I took a short research trip to northern Washington state looking for ideas for oil paintings, and in doing so, I came across this old barn. I stopped on the shoulder of the highway and stepped out of the car with my camera in hand, when suddenly a very large coyote or a small timber wolf bolted across the highway about 300-ft. in front of me. A farmer, several hundred yards ahead and to my left, shot at the animal. It leaped over the fence and ran off into the brush. I stood there with my mouth hanging open and didn't get a picture of it …a rare opportunity missed! I snapped the scene when the young hereford on the right watched it disappear into the brush. I ended up with a good subject for an oil painting.
