98-14 Images: Thinning Small Woodlands
The owner of a small woodland is shown here in the process of operating his "Cat" to remove logs from his timber. These logs will be sold and processed at a nearby mill. He has selectively thinned his woodland to allow more nutrients and sunlight for the remaining trees. Trees compete for nutrients with other trees; more and more as they grow larger. In order to be a good steward of the land the owner must be on constant lookout for ways in which he can improve his crop, and to be alert to possible bug and disease infestation.
